Pastor Ellen received her MS in Christian Education from Pheiffer University, Charlotte, NC and completed the Basic Graduate Theological Studies at Wesley Theological Seminary, Washington, DC in 2014.  She was licensed as a Local Pastor in 2008 and served as the Associate Pastor at Mount Tabor/Celia Phelps United Methodist Church Charge 2008-2015. She began serving as Associate Pastor of St. John's UMC in Greensboro in 2016. She comes to Center & Salem United Methodist Churches after serving as Pastor of Newlyn Street UMC in Greensboro.

Ellen received her AS in Mortuary Science from Fayetteville Technical Community College and is a licensed funeral director and embalmer. She was previously employed with Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home.  Ellis is also a graduate of North Carolina A&T State University with a BS in Industrial Technology, and a MS in Manufacturing Systems from Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York. She was employed by Xerox Corporation for eleven years in Rochester, NY as an engineer; supervisor and product line manager. She worked with Eaton Corportation for size years in Sanford, NC as a trainer.

She is the daughter of Nathan and Emily Spruill of Greensboro. She has five children: Jody (Tawana), Dominique, Joshua (Gabriela), Kevin and Jeremy; three grandchildren: Esaa, Jabari and Jordyn; and one great grandchild, Logan.
